New saloon opens in Saginaw

Downtown Saginaw is home to a new bar, the 100 Proof Saloon on Hamilton Street.

Located at 207 N. Hamilton in Old Town Saginaw, the 100 Proof is owned by Lisa Czerniak and officially opened in November. Since then, it's garnered a wide following for its live music, self-aware sense of humor (like serving 40-ounce bottled beer in brown paper bags) and rock style. Don't let the self-deprecation fool you, though; they also have a stash of very fine liquors, serve Michigan and craft beers on tap, and take pride in crafting their own mixes, appropriate to Czerniak's years of experience as a bartender.

Newly renovated and decorated with a large skull and crossbones painted on one wall, along with historic Saginaw photos in a nod to its location, 100 Proof is one of several bars along Hamilton Street. The building, at one time vacant, formerly was home to the bar Shenanigans.

Thursday night is already college night at the bar, which also has hosted several special events. Its staff numbers about 15 currently, with hiring ongoing. It's open starting at 3 p.m. daily until 2 a.m.
