The Saginaw-based
Nexteer Automotive announced it will be undertaking a major expansion--building a new global headquarters in Detroit.
That doesn't mean Saginaw operations are going to slow down any; the steering and driveline systems manufacturer emphasized in its announcement that it still expects to hire about 65 workers in Saginaw in the coming year, in addition to the Detroit construction.
The move is more based on the proximity to other automotive suppliers and R&D divisions in the automotive industry, according to the Nexteer announcement.
"Establishing a stand-alone global headquarters in the greater Detroit area demonstrates our commitment to the state of Michigan and provides us with a strong platform for long term success," says Laurent Bresson, president and global COO. "Having our top leadership, global management and functional staff closer to customers, industry leadership and decision makers will be an asset as we continue to grow both in North America and in our operations around the globe."
The headquarters move will take place in 2016, after a new headquarters is built. Bresson says the company's engineering center will remain in Saginaw and expand its engineering team.
