Japanese restaurant joins Midland East End

The new East End development near Dow Diamond in Midland just keeps bringing on solid retail, restaurant and business offerings. The latest company announcing its move-in to the East End is Maru Sushi and Grill, a Japanese restaurant.

Maru is owned by Maru Hospitality Group, and has three other locations in Michigan, in Grand Rapids, Okemos, and East Lansing. The Midland restaurant is planned to be open this summer, as the East End project keeps developing.

"To become part of Midland's growth, particularly within a prominent new development like East End, is an exciting opportunity," says Robert Song, president of Maru Hospitality Group.

Maru will be the first dinner-type restaurant in East End. The other tenants so far include State Street, which is a café-style restaurant; Dow Chemical Co. offices; a Chemical Bank office; a MidMichigan Health location; and legal offices for Warner, Norcross, and Judd.

The East End itself encompasses a total of 5 and a half acres in east downtown Midland, and is in the initial phase of a mixed-use development designed to integrate pedestrian plazas, loft housing, shops, cafes, public art, offices and services. It's being developed by Lansing companies Gillespie Group and Caddis Development Group.
