Central Michigan University will offer a new master's degree in engineering as part of its School of Engineering and Technology.
The two-year program is designed for students or working engineers who are interested in working in research and development within their industries.
"CMU is establishing its name as one of the premier universities for the study of engineering," says Mohamad Qatu, CMU's School of Engineering and Technology director. "We are very excited to be adding another dimension to our teaching and research offerings."
Students in the program have to complete 24 credit hours of coursework and six credit hours of research before completing a thesis. Current CMU engineering students have the option to take an accelerated track that combines some higher-level undergraduate courses with the master's degree coursework.
Graduates will have skills in improving production processes and techniques in research and development in engineering industries, according to CMU. The program was created in response to the demand for skilled engineers in the workforce.
