New program manager at Midland Community Center

Lewis Garner knows basketball, which is why he made for an obvious choice when the Midland Community Center was looking for a new program manager for their Midland Basketball Academy.

Garner, who took on the role starting Aug. 4, will be responsible for program administration and coordination of on-court coaching and development, among others.

"Lewis was chosen because of his wide range of coaching experience and drive for success," says Ryan Longoria, Athletics Manager at the MCC. "He has incredible passion for the game of basketball, helping develop youth on and off the court, and has a commitment and willingness to be a team player."

Garner played collegiate basketball at Ferris State University and was inducted into the FSU Hall of Fame in 2007. He was a captain of his team and is currently the 11th in all-time scoring for the Bulldogs. He has coached both high school and collegiate basketball.

He has a bachelor's degree from FSU in business education and a master's from Central Michigan University in education administration and community leadership.
