Among the most recent additions to the National Register of Historic Places are two in mid-Michigan.
According to an announcement from the Michigan State Historic Preservation Office, part of the
Michigan State Housing Development Agency, there were 10 new sites added across the state in early 2015.
In Mount Pleasant, part of the downtown district was named to the list as the Mount Pleasant Downtown Historic District, bounded by Mosher, Franklin, Illinois, and Washington streets.
In Saginaw County, the main gate of the Saginaw County Fairgrounds, at 2701 East Genesee Avenue, was added to the register.
Each site goes through a nomination process and is reviewed by a state board before being submitted for review by the National Register. That process happens three times annually.
